In February 1905, work began on the new church in Tvøroyri. J.A. Arge prepared a sketch of the ground plan, and Viggo Bertram, an architect based in Copenhagen, produced the drawings and cost estimate. The church was planned to measure 36 by 16 alin internally and to be 7 alin high, with stone as the main building material.
The work progressed well at first, but in April it came to a halt, partly because J.A. Arge withdrew from the project. A/S J. Mortensen Eftf. then offered to supply all building materials on the condition that the church be constructed of timber.
In January 1906, the County Governor C. Bærentsen and Provost Fr. Petersen recommended to the Løgting that the only viable option was to build a wooden church. A/S J. Mortensen Eftf. was responsible for the construction, and the new wooden church came to resemble the originally planned stone church.
The church was prefabricated abroad at Strømmen Trævarefabrik A/S in Norway. Construction began in the autumn of 1906 and was completed in 1907. The church was erected in Tvøroyri and was ready for use in the spring of 1908. The consecration took place on Ascension Day the same year.
