The river path

Along the river Stórá in Trongisvági, a path has been constructed that is now almost 1,900 metres in length.

The path begins at the fire pit south of Trongisvágs School and runs about 200 metres south through open heathland to the river Stórá. It meets the river approximately 600 metres east of Ósan and then follows the river for about 1,700 metres into the valley.

Walking along the path is a beautiful and varied experience. Stórá changes character from being wide and slow-flowing to becoming narrow, with a series of waterfalls that in several places run through small gorges.

The landscape shifts from flat and open terrain to hilly and rugged ground.

When about half of the path has been completed, one reaches the woodland area in Trongisvági. It is a particularly scenic spot, where it is possible to stop and perhaps make use of the barbecue area. Several species of small birds nest here, including goldcrests.

The woodland area is currently being expanded both north and south of the river. South of the river, the Faroese Forestry Service is in the process of planting approximately 13,000 m² and has also established paths and a duck pond.

Áargøtan continues west of the woodland, where the river Stórá, as mentioned, becomes narrower and wilder.

The path ends about 800 metres further upstream, where it connects with the road “Við Rangá.”
