Jóansøka is held every other year in Vágur (even-numbered years) and every other year in Tvøroyri (odd-numbered years).

The programme is usually announced shortly beforehand, but it is always fixed that the rowing competitions take place on Saturday. The adult races begin at approximately 3:00 p.m., with the children’s races held earlier. The programme typically includes various sports and cultural activities, as well as a funfair, bouncy castles, and other entertainment for children.
