The purpose of the Suðuroy Child Welfare Service is to look after children and young people who, because of social problems, live in conditions that may harm their welfare and development, and to ensure that they receive the necessary help to improve their situation. An important priority for the Child Welfare Service is to make sure that help is provided together with the family, that the support offered is the best possible, and that the everyday life of the child and family is affected as little as possible.

Suðuroy Child Welfare Service is organised as a collaboration between the municipalities on the island, with Tvøroyri Municipality serving as the host municipality. Each municipal council appoints a representative to the Child Welfare Committee and to the collaborative board, which manages the service. The municipalities share running costs based on their populations.
